Shared Bodies

This body of work is the result of an arts-based inquiry approach which draws from ideas found in a/r/tography, motherscholarship, new materialism/feminism, and material exploration. This inquiry through artmaking is a collaboration between myself, my own children (2 and 4 years old) and the places and materials which make up the environment in which we learn and live. Centering around ideas of material agency, agency of the child, material collaboration, and the sharing of bodies, I explore my own perception and experience of making art, being a student/researcher, a mother and preservice art teacher. My exploration reflects on my perception of my children's artistic processes and material exploration, of my own memory and experiences of touch and material collaboration, and how these aspects of learning and making with inter and intra actions inform my own understanding of creative and material engagement. At the center of the practice is a slowing down to the attention of listening and looking.
